How do I stop my IP being blocked?

Post by scorpio »

Hi

My Internet Provider has started using DHCP for all domestic users which means I have to keep changing my IP entry in csf.allow or pay a premium to get a fixed IP.
I try and and catch when the IP address change sos that I can whitelist it in csf but it not so easy keeping up and I find my IP is getting blocked by the firewall on a weekly basis now.

I'm not IP savvy, but from what I can see class A,B,C, of the IP address are always the same, only class D is variable,
I had read somewhere you can add a start /end of range to csf.allow but I cannot tell you what is the start and end range of class D, my question - is there a setting I can add to csf.allow to ensure that whatever class D is set my IP wont be blocked?

Thanks in advance

You can allow a whole /24 subnet
for example if your IP address is between 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.255 you can allow 192.168.1.1/24

Another method is to register your pc / router with dynamic dns service (noip.com for example) and add your domain to /etc/csf/csf.dyndns
