Mailscanner not started - lost emails

Hi,
We needed to reboot the server last night. After we did, it seems Mailscanner did not start properly.
We noticed the mail queue had over 800 emails pending. Tried to restart Mailscanner - that did not work (I was in a panic, so I did not properly make note of the error.) Then I just disabled Mailscanner to get email moving again.

Exim services were restored and email is delivering now, but we can't figure out what happened to the 800+ emails waiting to be processed. They appear to be gone. I assume they must be stored on the server somewhere, but I cannot find them.

Anyone know where we should look?

A quick update to this.
I think I may have found, at least some of the files.
They appear to be stored in /var/spool/exim_incoming/input/
But I have no idea how to get them delivered.
Does anyone know how to do this?
