I believe it will download the entire attachment into a temporary file and then scan it. As I understand it, virus scanners can only scan whole files.

MSFE just lists the files located in the /usr/mailscanner/etc/rules/ directory for that feature, so if you change the location of the rules file in the MailScanner configuration, MSFE won't find it.

We've never worked with the MailWatch audit log so I'm afraid we can't help. Perhaps someone else who has used it will answer. Otherwise you might try the MailWatch website or mailing list.

You shouldn't be using rules_du_jour anymore, as it is not being maintained. You should be using sa-update instead. Instructions for adding it to our cPanel MailScanner install are here:

There are some bayes configuration options in these two files:

/etc/mail/spamassassin/mailscanner.cf
/usr/mailscanner/etc/MailScanner.conf

Other than that, you will need to search the spamassassin website and/or mailing list archives for further information.

This forum is specifically for cPanel servers running MailScanner as installed via our install script. Since your server is not running cPanel, you should post your question to the MailScanner mailing list:
